All Community Gardens coming under the Reap More Than You Sow program will be required to comply with a few but important Codes of Practice. This is to ensure that the vision and mission of the project is upheld, and that consistent high quality is maintained across all gardens within the project.
1) Each garden will have a Captain (or Co-Captains) who will be responsible for the overall day-to-day oversight of the gardens and will have certain discretions as to how to manage the garden.
2) Captains will be overseen by the Garden Coordinator who will visit gardens, communicate with Captains and be available for questions/comments/concerns.
3) Captains will request resources (money, equipment, materials) via the Garden Coordinator.
4) Each garden will be worked, maintained and managed by Garden Teams. the size of the team needs to be one team member per 1,000 square foot.
5) Garden Teams must be comprised of members from the local community with a target of at least 1/3 youth. Social and cultural diversity is strongly encouraged.
6) This is a not-for-profit organization and therefore the selling of produce or any other activity or material for financial gain is strictly prohibited.
7) All gardens are required to follow “best horticultural practices” to make sure the gardens are productive, educational and aesthetically pleasing.
8) Each garden is required to contribute at least 1/4 of its produce to local and approved food charities (such as Food Bank and Crisis Control Ministry).
9) Each garden will have a sign displayed stating Reap More Than You Sow and the garden number, which will be assigned by the organization.
